Il periodo più florido coincide con l’arrivo della primavera. Il periodo delle uscite discografiche a valanga. Nella nostra rubrica Record News rendiamo conto quotidianamente ma l’alto numero delle produzioni non riesce ad essere ovviamente convogliato e rinchiuso dentro quello spazio. Così ogni tanto siamo piacevolemente costretti a riassumere quello che succederà nel prossimo, molto prossimo futuro.

Iniziamo dagli immarcescibili Melvins che il 1 giugno (via Ipecac) tirano fuori ‘The Bride Screamed Murder’ una decina di giorni prima della loro apparizione al Bonnaroo Festival. Si tratta del terzo album con la seguente line up: Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, Coady Willis e Jared Warren. I Melvins hanno recentemente festeggiato i 25 anni di onoratissima carriera e continueranno a celebrarsi dal 1 giugno al 9 luglio per le “vie” di un tour americano/canadese.

Lasciata momentaneamente la parentesi solista (eccellente è bene sottolinearlo) Jeremy Enigk rientra a tempo pieno nei riformati Sunny Day Real Estate. A maggio la band di Seattle è pronta per mettersi al lavoro su un nuovo album, dieci anni dopo l’ultimo ‘The Rising Tide’. “Great news today. Just got an email from Nate [Mendel] from Sunny Day Real Estate/Foo Fighters… SDRE is recording A NEW RECORD IN MAY!!”

Il 22 giugno registrerà il piacevole ritorno dei canadesi Stars con ‘The Five Ghosts’ via Vanguard Records. Amy Millan ha dichiarato: “We have never written an album with this much cohesion and unity. It is the first time we’ve had the luxury of being together in a huge room writing songs off the floor”.

Superati i gravi problemi di salute Adam Yauch è tornato a farsi vedere in pubblico (ai recenti Film Independent Spirit Awards) e ad annunciare l’imminente release dei suoi Beastie Boys che si intitola ‘Hot Sauce Committee, Part 1′.“I was just talking to Adam [Horovitz] and Mike [D] today on the phone and we were talking about working on it a bit. We finished the record over a year ago, so we want to take a look at it and re-evaluate and make sure it is what we want to put out there and that we are still happy with it. I don’t think we will change it up too much”.

Da tempo immemore annunciato finalmente viene schedulato il nuovo album dei Divine Comedy di Neil Hannon. ‘Bang Goes The Knighthood’ esce il 31 maggio quattro anni dopo l’ultimo ‘Victory For The Comic Muse’.

Quattro anni dall’ultimo disco il tempo trascorso anche per i Red Sparowes. Il 6 aprile arriva il terzo ‘The Fear Is Excruciating, But Therein Lies The Answer’ (successore di ‘Every Red Heart Shines Toward The Red Sun’). La band di Los Angeles si è avvalsa dell’ingegnere del suono dei Melvins Toshi Kasai. “The album will feature a newfound sense of dynamics. They now temper their monolithic progressions with distinct passages of separated and soft-spoken instrumentation. Red Sparowes were suspiciously absent from the playing field over the last three years, and now it’s apparent that they were busy drafting the grandest statement and finest achievement of their existence”.
